Synopsis:
Kirk's shuttlecraft escort of Federation Commissioner Nancy Hedford to mediate peace talks is pulled off course by an odd energy cloud. Diverted to a rogue planetoid, the shuttle crew finds a youthful Zefram Cochrane -- inventor of the warp drive 200 years ago -- alive and well. Cochrane, who had vanished centuries ago on a doomed flight, had been rescued from his failing ship and rejuvenated by an energy being he calls simply the Companion. The Companion senses that Cochrane needs more than its own nebulous being, and resolves to find better company for him. Complicating matters, Commissioner Hedford is stricken by Sakuro's disease and will die unless they get advanced medical aid. In a pivotal turn of events, the Companion is found to be female, which repulses Cochrane -- and this rejection compels the entity to take matters into its own hands.
Guest Cast:
Glenn Corbett as Zefram Cochrane
