Synopsis: A contentious group of diplomats furiously debates the possibility of admiting planet Coridan to the Federation, transported by the Enterprise. The crew is in for a bit of a surprise, for the Vulcan ambassador, Sarek, is none other than Spock's father. But it is no happy reunion. The longtime rift over Spock's Federation career choice is obvious and telling. Spock is not the only one with whom Sarek has conflicts. The ambassador engages in a very public disagreement with a fellow diplomat, and when that diplomat is later found murdered, Sarek is the main suspect. Before an investigation can begin, Sarek suffers a heart attack that requires risky, experimental surgery and a life-giving transfusion of blood from Spock. But Spock refuses to donate -- he's now in command, for the killer has struck again, this time at Kirk who is incapacitated in sick bay. So much hangs in the balance -- a key diplomatic decision, Sarek's life, the Enterprise -- can they keep chaos at bay?
