Part One:
As much as the Vulcan can reveal, Spock seems shattered by the debilitating radiation accident which has confined his longtime captain and mentor, Christopher Pike, to a bare existence in a wheelchair at Starbase 12. But Kirk and the starbase's Commodore Mendez can hardly believe the Vulcan would kidnap Pike and hijack the Enterprise -- which are the just the charges presented against Spock when the senior officers are forced to open a shipboard courtmartial after a baffling series of events.
Part Two:
Forced to continue watching the beamed-in images of Pike and Vina as virtual zoo specimens, Kirk eventually realizes why Starfleet's General Order No. 7 forbids travel to Talos IV -- the only death penalty left on the books. Spock's career is rescued, but only after the oddest evidence ever presented in a Starfleet hearing is aired.
