Synopsis:
A classic Spock-McCoy debate about the Prime Directive's application to arrested cultures soon becomes a moot point on Gamma Trianguli VI. There, a routine survey mission turns deadly for three security officers. A machine-god named Vaal instructs and protects the planet's friendly, naive aborigines in a paradise-like setting, but when the Starfleet intrusion is perceived by it as an intrusion on their innocence, Vaal wrath turns the planet's elements -- and its formerly gentle people -- against the landing party and the starship. Finally, the captain has no choice but to take on Vaal directly -- and risk betraying Starfleet's most sacred order.
