Synopsis:
Kirk's only remaining family is among the casualties on Deneva, a beautiful, long-settled colony that is the latest site of an outbreak of mass insanity. The captain has pushed the ship's labs to the brink to save his nephew Peter and other survivors, only to have Spock succumb to the enigmatic contagion: flying, soft-bodied parasites which are linked as a collective mind. Only his Vulcan stamina keeps Spock from going insane with the pain as McCoy races to find a cure -- but is the treatment he devises too severe for survival?
